I put the baby bath in our actual tub and run the faucet the whole time she in - she loves the sound of the water. The sling allows for me to have the baby bath overflow and still be safe.
However, unless your house is 75 degrees or more, it's probably too cold to have a newborn baby suspended in the air like this. We used this baby bathtub for our newborn when he was little. I felt better just having my newborn on a towel on the kitchen table, where I could keep him covered except for the small area I was sponge bathing at that moment. Like most baby bathtubs, he grew out of it really fast. I was glad I purchased this second-hand, instead of paying full price for it.The neatest looking aspect of this tub is the suspended mesh mat. When he was a little larger & I could submerge him in water (after his umbilical cord fell off & healed), I used the main part of the tub. However, it was usually just as easy to clean out the kitchen sink & use that.
We have been using this tub with our daughter for the last couple of months, and it really helps with bath time. The "hammock" is adjustable so that the heavier the child gets, the tighter you can pull it, to raise the level of the child in the water. Granted it works well for using it in a kitchen sink type setting, because of the colder climate, we have moved into our masterbath tub to keep her warmer. So glad I purchased this, and look forward to using it again with our second child, whenever that day comes.
I even went back and reviewed the diagrams to make sure I was doing it correctly. I loved this bath when we received it for a shower gift. It is also hard for my child to have her hair rinsed with the angle that it fits over the sink. It was cute, bright colors, and the hammock was easy and comfortable for my baby. Since my baby outgrew the hammock but can't sit up on her own, it is ackward with this weird bump that gets in the way and does not seem to fit. She has a lot more hair than the average baby but it should have still been considered when created. It seems like for the third stage it will be just fine, however, I am not sure my tolerance for the tub will last that long in the current stage we are in.
The hammock places them in the water without submerging them. We did notice that without the hammock stretched taut, but in the position they recommend for infants over 10 lbs, there is a bump. The hammock has a nice pillow on it where the baby can rest his head. It's also a very cute product, and I don't mind having it in the bathroom. Other reviewers mention it and I see the problem now. It keeps the bathwater contained, just in case there are any accidents, you won't have to wash the whole bathtub, just this product. The hammock is removable, and so can be washed as well. This product is handy because it makes it very easy to wash a newborn. I think he would enjoy it more if he could lie down instead, but the bump seems to prevent that.
No matter what I do, my kid is hydrophobic. He sits with his legs around the bump - I wonder if it is putting pressure against his sensitive bits down there. So I am not holding that agains the Fisher Price Bath Center. He starts to scream like a tortured POW when we put him in this tub. I really like the attachable toys - we use them to wash his hair, scooping up water and pouring it over. I think I will give this 4 stars because if the bump had been designed to be removable or configurable, it would have solved this problem for me and other users.I don't know if the bath-hating would be a problem with all bath centers.
We keep ours in the tub in our guest bathroom, where no one else bathes. That said, my child, now three months old, hates baths. I don't know why that is. He isn't immensely thrilled with going into the big bath with mom, or into the shower with me. It looked like it would be a fun place to bathe to ME.
